Underlayment Options
The HexHeat Plug & Play system requires an underlayment product with a thickness of 8mm and a compression strength of at least 30psi. This thickness is required for the connector portion to be installed flush into the floor. See our installation manual for more details.
We offer a synthetic cork underlayment that comes in a 200 sq ft package of 25 pieces measuring 24″ x 48″ x 8mm thick. This provides great sound insulation properties and proudly meets the standards required for the flooring.
When used on a concrete slab, underlayment prevents heat loss from the concrete as it creates a thermal break between the concrete and HexHeat heating film. This process helps radiate the heat upwards into the room more efficiently.
Flooring Considerations
As the HexHeat Plug & Play system requires 8mm underlayment to accept the thickness of the connector, we recommend a strong rigid floating floor that meets the following requirements:
- laminate – minimum thickness 8mm
- luxury vinyl tile/plank – minimum thickness 6mm
- stone plastic core (solid core) – minimum thickness 5mm
Please check with flooring and laminate manufacturer specifications to have them provide the best click and lock systems to accommodate and 8mm underlayment.
